PAAU Intensifies Cult Crackdown With Two More Arrests Following Armed Non-Student Bust

University management unveils profiling and renunciation programme as VC warns parents over cult recruitment

Prince Abubakar Audu University, Anyigba has arrested two more suspected cultists on campus, widening its crackdown on cultism days after security operatives apprehended an armed non-student during a recent breach.

This was disclosed in a statement by Uredo Omale, Public Relations Officer of the university.

The suspects, Fidelis Atuluku, Matric. No. 2026SE1252 and Monday Okolo, Matric. No. 2026SE1247, are both 100 Level students of Social Studies/Education in the Faculty of Education. They were picked up on Tuesday, 23rd June 2026 after a tip-off and were found in possession of charms. Both confessed to being members of the Juris Confraternity, claiming they were initiated before gaining admission. They will be handed over to law enforcement for further investigation.

The arrests come as part of the university’s response to recent security threats, including a cult-related killing on campus and the arrest of an armed non-student few days earlier. Management said the incidents triggered tighter surveillance and joint security operations to rid the campus of criminal elements..

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to eliminating cultism and related crimes.

“We will sustain this war against cultism and other criminal elements until sanity is fully restored on campus.”


He urged parents and guardians to monitor their wards closely and guide them on the company they keep. The VC also announced that the university has begun profiling cult members who voluntarily surrender, sign undertakings, and pledge to renounce membership. A formal renunciation ceremony will be organised for willing defectors.

Professor Usman thanked security agencies, religious leaders, traditional rulers and other stakeholders for supporting efforts to keep the campus safe, and called on students to cooperate with ongoing security measures.
