The University of Abuja Teaching Hospital (UATH) has awarded a contract for the supply and installation of a 1.5 Tesla Helium-free Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine as part of efforts to strengthen diagnostic and healthcare services.

A statement by the Head of Information and Public Relations Unit of the hospital, Sani Suleiman, says the development marks a major milestone in the institution’s drive to provide world-class medical services.

Presenting the award letter to the contracting firm, the Chief Medical Director of UATH, Professor Thairu Yunusa, described the project as a significant step towards improving the hospital’s capacity for accurate diagnosis and treatment of complex medical conditions.

Professor Yunusa explained that the long-awaited Helium-free MRI machine would offer advanced imaging capabilities while eliminating the safety and operational concerns associated with conventional MRI systems.

According to the statement, as a strategic gateway teaching hospital in the Federal Capital Territory, the acquisition of the equipment will position UATH among leading diagnostic and interventional healthcare centres in the country.

The Chief Medical Director noted that the machine would greatly enhance the hospital’s diagnostic capabilities and contribute to improved patient care and treatment outcomes.

The statement adds that the contract was awarded following a competitive bidding process conducted in compliance with due process requirements and the provisions of the Public Procurement Act, 2007.

Responding, the representative of the contracting firm assured the hospital management of the timely delivery and installation of the MRI machine in accordance with the terms of the contract.
