By Danjuma Amodu | March 19, 2026

Maiduguri – Vice President Kashim Shettima has visited victims of the March 17, 2026 explosions at the Post Office, Monday Market, and University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), accompanied by NEMA officials. Medical supplies, food, and non-food items were handed over to UMTH authorities.

The attacks, suspected to be carried out by Boko Haram suicide bombers, left 23 people dead and over 100 injured. Shettima conveyed the Federal Government’s condolences and support, saying, “The medical supplies were provided by the Federal Government through NEMA to support ongoing treatment efforts.”

This visit coincides with President Bola Tinubu’s two-day UK state visit at the invitation of Prince Charles and Camilla to strengthen economic ties. The government has assured tighter security measures across Maiduguri, with the Inspector-General of Police ordering increased vigilance.

Shettima was accompanied by Borno State Deputy Governor Umar Usman Kadafur and Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan. The attacks have been condemned by groups like the Northern Senators Forum and Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors, who called for improved security for healthcare facilities.
