…New leadership under Joycelyn Adah holds strategic talks with Amaechi Oyema to reposition association and address challenges

The newly inaugurated executives of the Environmental Correspondents Association of Nigeria, EMCAN, have met with the immediate past Chairman, Mr. Amaechi Chukwuekwu Oyema, to consolidate unity and chart a path for the association’s growth.
The strategic meeting was held on Tuesday in Abuja and was led by the new Chairman, Joycelyn Ellakeche Adah.
Adah said the engagement was aimed at ensuring a smooth transition and building on the gains of the previous administration. She commended Oyema for his sportsmanship and dedication to EMCAN’s progress, and restated the commitment of the new leadership to run an inclusive association.
“We are committed to building an inclusive and stronger EMCAN where every member has a role to play,” Adah stated.
In his response, Oyema underscored the need for collective responsibility among members to enable EMCAN to achieve local and international recognition. He also proffered ideas on deepening professionalism among environmental journalists and expanding opportunities for members.
The two leaders reviewed grey areas that could impede the current EXCO and agreed on concrete steps to address them. They further deliberated on strategies to reposition EMCAN for greater impact in environmental reporting and advocacy.
The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming their commitment to the unity, progress and sustained growth of the association.
EMCAN is the umbrella body for journalists covering environmental issues in Nigeria. The association focuses on capacity building, professionalism, and amplifying reportage on climate change, sustainability and conservation.
