Professor Pate lauds SPARK Africa, a collaboration with Stanford University and African institutions, for strengthening local capacity in translational research and health product development. The initiative supports Nigeria’s reform priorities, improving access to healthcare and creating skilled jobs.

The Director-General of NIPRD, Dr Adigwe, stressed the importance of strengthening Nigeria’s scientific ecosystem amidst global pressures on science.

The National Coordinator of PVAC, NG, Dr Abdu Mukhtar, emphasized Africa’s need to convert research into practical solutions, driving economic growth and healthcare transformation.

The Federal Government plans to expand investments in research, strengthen partnerships, and support local manufacturing to deliver affordable healthcare solutions.

The conference highlighted Nigeria’s potential to become a leader in health innovation, focusing on translational research and local manufacturing. Experts emphasized the need for sustainable funding, robust regulatory frameworks, and collaboration.

Key outcomes include Nigeria’s commitment to investing in research and development, strengthening partnerships, and enhancing regulatory frameworks. The efforts aim to deliver affordable, high-quality healthcare solutions, driving economic growth and improving national health security.

The SPARK Africa programme will continue to play a crucial role in building capacity for translational research, clinical trials, and health product development. This will enable Nigeria to develop locally relevant healthcare solutions, improve preparedness for health emergencies, and position Nigerian scientists and institutions as leaders in solving African health challenges.

The Federal Government’s efforts are expected to have a significant impact on the country’s healthcare sector, improving access to affordable and quality healthcare solutions. The focus on local manufacturing is also expected to create jobs, stimulate economic growth, and reduce dependence on imported healthcare products.

The conference concluded with a call to action for stakeholders to collaborate and support Nigeria’s healthcare transformation. The government, academia, industry, and international partners are expected to work together to drive progress and achieve the country’s healthcare goals.

The success of the SPARK Africa programme and Nigeria’s healthcare transformation efforts will depend on sustained investment, commitment, and collaboration from all stakeholders. With the right approach, Nigeria can become a leader in health innovation and improve the lives of its citizens.
