The Special Adviser to the President on Policy and Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman, has stressed the importance of effective fiscal coordination and the central role of subnational governments in shaping Nigeria’s economic growth outcomes.
Speaking at the 2nd edition of the National Economic Council Conference, she emphasized the need for states to take ownership of clearly defined economic pillars that drive growth within their local economies.
Usman commended the National Economic Council for strengthening trust and responsibility at the subnational level, allowing states to align policy intent with on-the-ground execution. She highlighted the significance of FAAC allocations and the need for these resources to be channelled into productive economic activity at the state level.
The Special Adviser also referenced discussions on agriculture, emphasizing the need to examine the full reinvestment cycle within the agri-value chain, particularly how farmers can reinvest proceeds from the sale of produce in subsequent production cycles.
