APC Endorses Tegbe for Power Ministry, Backs Him to Fix Electricity Sector

By Danjuma Amodu

The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has backed Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe’s nomination as Minister of Power, citing his technical depth and track record in policy and investment strategy.

The party described the nomination as “timely” given persistent challenges in power generation, transmission, and distribution. In a statement issued on Monday in Ibadan, the Oyo APC leadership said Tegbe’s selection reflects both merit and the urgent need for competent stewardship of the sector.

The statement was jointly signed by State Chairman, Chief Moses Adeyemo Alake, and State Secretary, Hon. Fatai Adesina. Both expressed strong confidence in Tegbe’s capacity to deliver reforms, pointing to his three decades of experience across engineering, consulting, and public sector advisory.

Tegbe, an engineer and policy strategist, previously served as Director-General of the Nigeria–China Strategic Partnership, where he coordinated bilateral development projects and investment engagements. He also chaired the National Tax Policy Implementation Committee, contributing to fiscal reforms and revenue framework improvements.

Before his full transition into public service, Tegbe had a distinguished career at KPMG, rising to Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services in Africa. In that role, he led major assignments on governance reform, economic policy, institutional transformation, and investment strategy across the public and private sectors. Earlier, he worked with Shell Petroleum Development Company, gaining experience in corporate operations and resource management.

Academically, Tegbe holds a first-class degree in Civil Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University and has completed executive programmes at Harvard and INSEAD.

The APC said this mix of technical expertise and policy leadership equips him to confront long-standing bottlenecks in the power value chain. “The APC in Oyo State is confident that Chief Tegbe will bring innovation, efficiency, and sustainable solutions to Nigeria’s power sector,” the statement read. “His history of performance and commitment to service positions him to make meaningful contributions to national development.”

The party noted that Nigeria is at a critical juncture where strategic direction is vital to unlock sustainable energy solutions. It added that Tegbe’s leadership could help reposition the sector for better performance and reliability.

The Oyo APC pledged full support for the minister-designate while promising constructive engagement with stakeholders to ensure progress. It also acknowledged Tegbe’s contributions to the party’s growth in the state, expressing optimism that his new role would deepen his commitment to national development.

The party wished him a successful tenure, saying it hopes his leadership will mark “a significant shift toward stable and reliable electricity supply across the country.”
