Board approves promotions and historic appointments to strengthen conservation efforts and boost staff morale

The Governing Board of the National Park Service (NPS) has approved the promotion of 607 senior and junior personnel across various cadres following the successful conduct of the 2025 promotion examination.
Mrs. Agbor Eba, Media Assistant to Dr. Ibrahim Goni, Conservator-General of the NPS, disclosed this in a press briefing on Wednesday in Abuja.
She said the approvals were part of broader efforts to strengthen the Service, improve staff welfare, and enhance the effective management of Nigeria’s national parks.
According to her, the promotions followed the Board’s endorsement of the recommendations of its Establishment Committee on June 23.
Eba announced that Mrs. Maria Mamman was promoted from Conservator of Parks to Assistant Conservator-General, becoming the first female officer to attain the position in the history of the Service.
She added that the Board also confirmed the appointment of Mr. Ugochukwu Michael, the Acting Assistant Conservator-General, as the first substantive A-CG from the South-East.

Eba said the NPS congratulated all promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as a call to greater responsibility, discipline, and dedication to the protection of Nigeria’s biodiversity.
She reaffirmed the Service’s commitment to building a motivated workforce capable of conserving the nation’s natural heritage for present and future generations.
