Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of Saturday’s chairmanship election in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Ishaku as the duly elected chairman after he secured 18,466 votes, defeating candidates from other parties.
The Returning Officer, Professor Mohammed Nurudeen, declared Ishaku the winner, stating he met all legal requirements.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate polled a distant 4,254 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) candidate garnered 3,515 votes, finished second and third, respectively.
The victory comes after PDP candidate Julius Adamu stepped down in Ishaku’s favour, citing intervention by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike. Adamu urged his supporters to back Ishaku, saying, “It will not be right for two brothers to fight over one office.”
