NUJ FCT partners with Adobe and Lifestyle Hues to equip media professionals with digital tools, as experts stress that online visibility and multimedia skills are now essential for modern journalism.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the capacity of media professionals through continuous training and exposure to modern digital communication tools.

Chairman of the Council, Grace Ike, disclosed this on Monday while declaring open a one-day media capacity-building workshop organised by the Council in collaboration with Adobe and Lifestyle Hues in Abuja.

The training, which drew 100 journalists from public and private media organisations in the Federal Capital Territory, focused on the use of Adobe Express and other digital tools to enhance storytelling, content creation, and multimedia presentation.

Speaking at the event, Ike said the media industry was evolving rapidly, making it imperative for journalists to adapt to new methods of information dissemination.

“The ability to design compelling visuals, edit multimedia content, and present stories in engaging formats is now a core part of our profession. We are taking steps to ensure our members remain competitive, relevant, and impactful.”

She described digital tools such as Adobe Express as essential instruments for effective communication in the modern media landscape. Ike commended Lifestyle Hues and the Adobe team for partnering with the Council to equip journalists with practical digital skills. She urged participants to maximise the opportunity by applying the knowledge gained in their respective newsrooms.

Training facilitator Ayodotun Akinfenwa described the workshop as part of efforts to support media professionals and empower them with tools required for modern journalism.

She noted that journalists, content creators, and media practitioners must embrace digital tools to boost productivity, improve visibility, and create engaging content for online audiences.

“If you are not showing up online, it is almost as if you are not doing anything. Tools like Adobe Express help journalists become more independent and productive in the line of duty.”
— Ayodotun Akinfenwa, Training Facilitator

Akinfenwa explained that digital storytelling and social media visibility have become increasingly important in today’s information-driven society. She added that journalists who effectively utilise online platforms are more likely to attract opportunities and wider audiences.

She stressed that faster and more effective dissemination of information would contribute positively to societal development and economic growth.

The Adobe partner also called on media owners in both public and private sectors to invest more in training and retraining journalists in digital communication, artificial intelligence tools, and content publishing technologies.

According to her, journalists remain major influencers in society and must therefore operate at the cutting edge of communication and media innovation.

Participants described the initiative as timely and beneficial, while calling for more regular training programmes to improve the professional skills of journalists in Nigeria.

“This training came at the right time. As journalists, we can no longer rely only on pen and paper. We need these digital skills to tell better stories and reach wider audiences.”

The NUJ FCT Council, under the leadership of Chairman Grace Ike, has prioritised digital literacy for members amid a shifting media landscape shaped by AI, social media, and multimedia platforms. Adobe Express is a cloud-based design tool that enables users to create graphics, videos, and web pages without advanced technical skills. The collaboration with Lifestyle Hues reflects growing partnership by the Grace Ike leadership and tech firms to bridge Nigeria’s digital skills gap in journalism.
