Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, has donated a fleet of electric-powered tricycles and motorbikes to the Confluence University of Science and Technology, CUSTECH, Osara, to ease transportation challenges within the institution.
The vehicles were formally handed over on Monday, September 15, 2026, to the Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, who described the intervention as timely and impactful for both staff and students.
Prof. Salawu said internal mobility had remained a major challenge for the University community, noting that the donation would provide an affordable, reliable and sustainable transportation alternative on campus.
“The Governor is passionate about the welfare of our staff and students. This donation will go a long way in reducing the cost of transportation within the University and making movement around the campus easier and more affordable,” he said.
He commended former Governor Yahaya Bello for constructing an extensive road network across the campus, which he said has created the enabling infrastructure for the effective deployment of the electric vehicles.
“The former Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, constructed good road networks across the campus. With these roads, these tricycles will be put to very good use in moving our staff and students conveniently around the University,” Salawu added.
The Vice-Chancellor described the vehicles as noiseless, smokeless and environmentally friendly, saying their introduction aligns with global best practices for clean energy and would contribute to a healthier campus environment.
He appreciated the Chief Executive Officer of House of Destiny Global Services, Dr. Israel Olajumoke, represented by Mrs. Momoh Janet Ometere, for facilitating the innovative transport solution, and urged staff and students to ensure proper use and maintenance of the vehicles.
In her remarks, the Registrar of the University, Mrs. Glory Ojochogu Yakubu, said Governor Ododo has consistently demonstrated commitment to the welfare of the University community, recalling that he recently commenced the construction of staff quarters on the campus.
She said the new electric-powered transport system would provide a cheaper and more accessible means of movement for both staff and students.
The Vice-Chancellor was joined at the brief handover ceremony by other principal officers, including the Bursar, Mr. Bello Emmanuel Ajayi; Director, Physical Planning and Development, Bldr. Ismail Adoke; Dean, Student Affairs, Engr. Dr. Shehu Shaib; Head, Internal Audit, Alh. Hussain Mohammed; Acting Director, Works and Maintenance, Engr. Sadiq Rufai; Acting Director, Procurement, Alh. Buhari Sadiq Ozomata; and Acting Head, Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit, Mr. Umar Steven Ogirima.
According to the Information, Public Relations and Protocol Unit of CUSTECH, Osara, the University management has reassured the State Government of its commitment to judiciously utilise the vehicles and sustain partnerships that promote infrastructural growth, environmental sustainability and improved welfare for staff and students.
