Nigeria has expressed its willingness to partner with Canada to strengthen its mining sector, with a focus on formalising artisanal operations, building local capacity, and attracting credible investors.
President Tinubu made this known when he received the Canadian High Commissioner to Nigeria, H.E. Pasquale Salvaggio, at the Presidential Villa in Abuja today.
The President highlighted the opportunities for collaboration, citing Canada’s expertise and technology as key factors that can support Nigeria’s efforts to grow the industry and uphold global standards.
“We are driving reforms to grow the industry, attract credible investors, and uphold global standards,” the President said, adding that Nigeria is offering clear incentives such as tax waivers on mining equipment and full profit repatriation after statutory obligations are met.
The meeting also led to an agreement to set up a joint working group to define priority areas and timelines, with the goal of achieving tangible results that benefit both countries.

The Canadian High Commissioner expressed his country’s interest in partnering with Nigeria in the mining sector, citing the country’s rich mineral resources and potential for growth.
The development is seen as a significant step towards boosting Nigeria’s mining industry, which has been plagued by challenges such as artisanal mining and lack of infrastructure.
