Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has cautioned political actors against resorting to violence and voter intimidation before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
Speaking at the Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stakeholders’ meeting in Lokoja at the weekend, the senator representing Kogi Central stressed that the electoral process must be guided by rules, not force.
“Politicians should endeavour to embrace political battle devoid of killings, intimidation and destruction,” Akpoti-Uduaghan said. “The game should be played in a manner that would give room for voters to come out in their large numbers to exercise their franchise without fear.”
She appealed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to guarantee a level playing field for candidates of all political parties.
Akpoti-Uduaghan further urged party members to protect PDP’s votes by monitoring polling units to prevent tampering. She welcomed the return of some party chieftains who had left over grievances and called for renewed efforts to secure victory at the polls.
“We as party leaders would not relent in our efforts to ensure total reconciliation of all aggrieved members to boost unity, peace and team work for the success of PDP in Kogi,” she said.
Earlier, Kogi PDP Chairman Mohammed Gambo pledged effective mobilisation of voters for all the party’s candidates. He expressed confidence that the PDP would reclaim Kogi in the upcoming election, noting that “necessary measures and strategies have been put in place to achieve the goal.”
Gambo urged members to remain focused and committed to the party’s success at the polls.
