IBADAN — Suspected terrorists attacked an Operation Burst security base along the Igbeti-Igboho Road in Oyo State in the early hours of Sunday, setting the facility and an abandoned vehicle ablaze and carting away a generator and a motorcycle.
The incident occurred between 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. in an area linking Olorunsogo and Oorelope Local Government Areas.
The Chairman of Olorunsogo Local Government Area, Kazeem Olayanju, confirmed the attack. He said no casualty was recorded.
“The information is true. But there is no casualty. They burnt the security post we constructed for them,” Olayanju said.
According to him, the attackers set fire to the security post built for Operation Burst personnel before also burning an abandoned vehicle at the location.
“They also set ablaze an abandoned vehicle there. They also carted away their generator and motorcycle. It occurred today around 5:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m,” he added.
Operation Burst is a joint security outfit comprising personnel of the Nigerian Army and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.
The outfit was established by the administration of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Abiola Ajimobi, to strengthen security and combat criminal activities across the state.
While some sources described the attackers as suspected Boko Haram members, there was no immediate confirmation from security agencies on the identity of the assailants.
The attack has raised fresh security concerns along the Igbeti-Igboho corridor, a border area that has seen increased criminal activity in recent months.
